Peter Marks, MW reviews our 2004 Vintage
October 01, 2007
From the first release of their 2002 vintage to this new 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Hagen Heights continues to amaze me with each successive vintage. 2004 is clearly the finest wine from this estate vineyard located east of the town of Napa. Here the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes ripen slowly in vineyards cooled by the nearby San Francisco Bay, developing delicious cassis, blackberry and black cherry flavors. This Hagen Heights Cabernet offers wonderfully rich, bright, forward fruit flavors, but unlike the intense and often overpowering wines from warmer vineyards in the northern part of the valley, the wine beautifully balances its fruit with elegance and finesse, along with a lovely, long, supple finish expertly complemented with nuances of toast and spice from gentle oak aging. You can easily delight in pouring this wine today with a selection of fine artisan cheeses, or a roast prime rib of beef, or better yet, age the wine in the cellar for another 10 years and watch it grow from one strength to another.
